Is it ok to use power supplier splitters to get more available power suppliers to use 2 PCI-E adapters?
2 of my power supply wires have already been used for a 4-pin to 6-pin (PCI-E) adapter so I can use my 9600 GT card. If I am to upgrade to a GTX 260, which requires 2 6-pin cables, is it ok if I use a splitter to get 4 available power supplies so I can use 2 4-pin to 6-pin adapters?
Is it advisable?
I'm using a 600W PSU. I only got 2 drives, no extra PCI cards, 2 2gig DDR2 RAMs and no extra devices which requires extra power, so I don't think I won't have any problems overloading the PSU.
Will it work? I don't have any plans for SLI. I just want to run a GTX 260 in case I buy one.
I'm on a tight budget. I would buy a new PSU if it's really needed, but if it'll work in my current 600W PSU using splitters then I don't need to upgrade to a new PSU yet.
I personally wouldn't use 2 6pin pigtails on a power supply. The 4pin molex are comming off the +5V rails, which are fine in most cases for running 1 pigtail, but not two. For a 260GTX you are going to want 30amps on the +12V rail or rails, you can add them together if you have 2 or more rails...
Consider this long and hard now. If you are using a really good monitor as it is, do you have plans of SLI? If the answer is yes, then go ahead and get a PSU with 4 6pin PCIEx16 power connectors while you are at it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182150 this for one 260GTX
