I am connecting 2 cisco switches but no traffic passes between the 2?
I have 2 cisco switches connected via fiber GBIC.
They have a link light, both report: GigabitEthernet up/line protocol up.
Both switches interfaces are configured as follows:
Interface GigabitEthernet 3/1
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,2
switchport mode trunk
Now I plug my laptop into one the the access port and try to ping the computer connected to the access port on the other side and get no connection... what am I missing?
I am using the native VLAN1
the ports that the pc's are connected to look as follows:
switchport mode access
nothing more... both PC's are on the same subnet.. so they should be able to ping
You may need to define the vlan under global config and set the ports that your clients are connected on to the appropriate vlan that you are trunking.
