My Scanner is not working on WIN XP.?
I have an old but faithful PC. Its configuration includes P-III 500 MHz, 256 MB RAM, 10 GB HDD. My scanner is UMAX Astra 1220S for SCSI port. Everything worked perfectly OK on WIN 98. But last week I upgraded to WIN XP (S/P 2) so that I can install an USB port. But now XP dont detect my scanner. I could not find an upgraded driver on UMAX site. I found a suggestion on one site to upgrade the driver for SCSI port. I installed that file - DTC3181x.exe. But still XP don't detect the scanner. Did anyone meet with a similar situation ? Please suggest a solution.
Mr. FRAUD doesn't seem to have read my problem properly. Firstly, I know that my scanner run on SCSI port, so noone can misguide me on that. if you were so sure that UMAX don't have SCSI port, then why you suggested in second line to remove SCSI port ? Secondly, I have already mentioned that I could not find any updated driver on any UMAX site. Even then you suggested to take it from UMAX site.
Umax scanners do not run on SCSI ports.someone has misguided you. Take out the SCSI port and uninstall the software. Install the software VISTASCAN you got along with the scanner. Don't install all the utilities, but just the essential ones.
Now go to the VISTASCAN or UMAX site, there they have a free to download patch for operating old Umax scanners. Dowload the patch and install it. It might or might not over-write the already installed drivers. With the installation of the patch, you will be able to operate your scanner through Vistascan.
The otherway is install the TWAIIN driver in any of your Image Editing programme or Corel. TWAIIN Driover is also able to operate the Umax scanner.
Actually this is a problem you will face in PIII - operating XP system, and USB Cables. If You have no ultra-modern dadgets, I would recommend you switch back to your Win-98-SE, it will make life easy for you. With 256MB, as such, you are going to face memory problems.
