Car Trunk Light Circuit Help!?
I am trying to install a Digitial LED License Plate Frame on my 2004 GMC Envoy and need a little help. Here are the instructions:
1.)Mount the Digital Frame over the license plate.
2.) Supply 12V DC power source. The red wire should be connected to +12Volt, the black connected to -12V. The wires can be connected to the license plate lighting power source.
3.) Attach the grey wire to your vechicle's brake lights. It will make the full screen illuminate when you brake the car.
Can anyone help make the installation more clear? I guess I just don't know how to access the vechicle's license plate lighting souce or the brake light area. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I know how to connect the wires, I just don't know where to access the power source.
Go to the library and find an auto repair book.
Like a Chiltons or Motors.
Don't know what you library might stock.
look up your vehicle and photocopy the page that shows the taillight area and wiring. You most likely will need to remove a vinyl cover inside the car to access the wires. If not it should have a wire diagram that shows where the wire harness is. You only need to access the wire for the license plate light and the wire for the brake lights. The book will tell you what color the brake (stop) lights operate from.
You can run the -12 volt wire to any bolt or screw and pinch it underneath.
Once you find the wires and ID the colors, just splice into them and replace any covers.
That should do it.
