would a 4 disk JBOD array have worse performance than a single disk?
Im planning on building a computer soon, and Im trying to decide whether I should use JBOD or RAID 0. Ive heard that RAID 0 doesn't gice you much of a performance advantage in some cases, but I haven't heard as much about JBOD. would JBOD be a more viable option for 4 1tb disks than RAID 0? I just want to combine it into one volume that'll give me 4thb of space, so Im curious to know what would be the best way to go about it.Im also curious to know if there's a way to do that without using RAID.
Yes, JBOD will make all drives appear as one drive to the OS, so you will have 4TB of disk space.
if one of your disks fails you will have to remove JBOD to access data on other 3 disks.
JBOD itself is a raid array.
According to some company (can't remember the name) RAID 0 does not actually enhance the performance as expected and in some cases it is even slower than a single disk setup.
I would suggest to use a separate disk for OS (80-120 GB would be perfect although 40GB would do depends on your needs) and you can create JBOD on other disks for storage.
My setup is RAID 1 (2 X 80GB for OS and applications) + 3 independent disks of diff. capacities for storage.
This might not be the answer you are expecting (execuse my ignorance).
