Can I join the Navy with a misdemeanor battery charge and 2 traffic tickets?
I'm 25 years old and I just recently went down to MEPS and took the ASVAB. I scored an 89 and was medically cleared to process. While waiting to meet with a classifier, I was called in to talk about whether or not a waiver for the battery misdemeanor was approved. I explained my situation and I was told that I needed to wait to see if my waiver would be approved. Here is a quick history of my story. I was charged with battery misdemeanor CA PC 242 and the charges were dismissed. Instead, I was charged with disturbing the peace CA PC 415. This occured in January of 2005. This is my only criminal offense. I have a speeding ticket from just recently 2 months ago, but I went to traffic school and it was dismissed. I also have a ticket from december of 2006 for not having my auto insurance on hand but my truck was insured. Will these events bar me from enlisting into the NAVY. I'm currently waiting for approval and its bugging me like crazy. What will happen?
Your traffic tickets won't effect anything, as long as the tickets were paid. As far as the battery charge, it depends on the specifics and circumstances of the charge. But if the charges were dismissed, then it shouldn't effect anything. If you are accepted, be mindful of the rate that you go into as, prior offenses charges and/or convictions may interfere with getting a security clearance.
