What happens if I miss my GCSE maths module?
I am taking my module 10 test tomorrow June 20th and i cannot make it due to severe tooth pain, i cannot see the dentist before the exam and am worried about what would happen if i missed the exam, i have done module 7, 8, and 9 and passed them all and my exam board is OCR.
Sorry i posted this on the American site by accident and thought i would have to post it again for people in the UK to see.
Don't miss the exam - go to it and do your best. Make sure the you tell your teacher / exam invigilator about your situation.
Each school should have a teacher designated as the exam officer, who will be able to advise you on the procedure for mitigating circumstances. This will probably involve a letter from your parents, with a medical letter from your doctor or dentist expaining how the tooth ache (and any medication you took to cope with the pain) was affecting you. If you are visibly in pain - the invigilator shoul make a note of how you looked (this is not essential, but adds authority to your application for mitigating circumstances).
The school then pass on this information to the exam board, who take it into account when they mark your paper.
No one knows how they adjust your mark - I guess it's their secret - they may move you up a grade, use your predicted grade from your mock, raise your mark by a percentage - I don't know.
But if you're not happy with the grade that you get, then you can still retake the paper at the next sitting - this may be November, or January or next June. But if you don't go to the exam today, you would have to resit it anyway, because you would automatically fail your GCSE, or get a really low mark overall.
So go, do your best today, and follow your teachers' advice for how to deal with the procedure for mitigating circumstances.
