Can I get faster throughput by using USB 2.0 High-Speed for my network instead of ethernet?
I have a 7 PCs on my network using ethernet cables using 10/100 PCI cards, switches, a router, and a WAP.
I want to increase the throughput of data from what I call my "server" pc to 3 of my other PCs.
Is there a way that I can do this by using the USB ports and USB cables on my PCs?
The location of my router prevents me from getting a USB cable to it, so if I have to connect it via USB in order to achieve higher speed between two computers on my network, then I'm thinking that won't work for me.
I would scrap the whole USB idea and I would definitely install 1GB ethernet cards all the way around and get a 1GB/sec router. While USB 2.0 is faster in theory, in reality it causes a lot more headaches and is not as reliable as ethernet. So definitely go with 1GB Ethernet.
