You should be able to add in your 1GB of RAM and it doesn't matter what speed you get it at.
* If your 1GB memory module is PC2100 then all of your memory is clocked down to PC2100 speed. This may or may not bother you although it would probably upset some techies out there. =P
* If your 1GB memory module is PC2700 then all of your memory runs at PC2700 speed. No problem there.
* If your 1GB memory module is PC3200 then all of your memory still runs at PC2700 speed because the 256MB module is rated at PC2700.
The biggest thing you should be concerned about, in my mind, is if the 1GB module is compatible with your system as some computer makers are more picky then others. If you buy the 1GB module, be sure to check the return policy of where you buy it in case it doesn't work out for you.
