How to configure two cisco routers on same laptop?
I have 2 Cisco 2600 routers and 1 2950 switch. I am basically learning router and switch configuration for my CCNA exam. Right now, I can connect one router to my computer with one lone USB to Serial adapter I have. If I want to configure both routers at the same time would I need 2 of those adapters. How can I then also configure the switch? Would I need a third?
I use Putty to configure the router
You have a few options. As has been noted you can use telnet but that isn't particularly helpful for basic exercises in particular since you need a basic config on the routers before you can telnet into them. Multiple serial interfaces is one approach that could work quite well for small numbers of devices. The final option would be to use a switch box (e.g. http://cpc.farnell.com/_/sb344/data-switch-db9-4-way/dp/CS14330 ) - this wouldn't allow truly simultaneously access to each devices but you can switch between each one instantly. Big brothers of these kind of switches are the approach usually used in administering large networks with many devices, e.g. http://www.networktechinc.com/srvsw-term.html which can control up to 32 devices from a single switch, but probably costs considerably more than you want to pay.
