Why doesn't my home wireless network work with my office VPN?
I have a work laptop that is able to be used to work remotely when connected to a VPN. However, on my home network, I cannot get it to work. The VPN will connect normally with no error messages, but nothing I am supposed to be able to access on the network is actually accessible (Outlook says it is disconnected, and web browsers say they can't find the server on restricted pages).
Working from friends' home networks or my wireless broadband card are both completely functional, so I assume it must have something to do with my wireless network or my computer's settings on my home wireless network.
Any ideas how to fix this or even what the problem might be? I am running Windows XP on a Dell Latitude D420.
Just an extra note -- I am definitely connected to the internet at home... I can access other pages and things, just not the VPN-specific stuff.
You need to check with your IT group at the office. They may require a particular port to be forwarded (port 13 - ident - comes to mind). The fact you can connect with other network systems, but not your own home system makes me think the router settings are the most likely problem.
As a quick check, you might bypass your router and see it you can connect then.
