all ethernet cables are not created equal. firstly like the other guy said one of those is cat5 vs the other being cat6. cat6 is a stiffer and higher quality cable that supports faster transfer rates than cat5e. usually reserved for gigabit+ commercial networking there aren't too many residential products than take full advantage of the capabilities of cat6. so for your usage cat5e vs cat6 probably doesn't matter. both are straight-thru patch cables so they will work for client to node connection (computer to switch, computer to router, game console to router, router to modem). you should however be careful as some cables are terminated as crossover cables where the input terminals on one end are connected to the output terminals of the other end and vice versa. this allows for client to client connection (connecting 2 computers in a LAN with a single cable and no hardware, or connecting 2 game consoles together with only a cable). so in summary, both cables will function identically however the cat6 one is of higher quality and supports faster transfer rates, making it also most likely more expensive.
