LAN card QUESTION?
I have a problem. Can you have an on-board LAN paired with a PCI LAN card on the same PC? One is for the DSL and the other one will be used for the Network.. I am trying to connect PC to PC using cross-cable.. help!!!!
one important detail: NO HUB or ROUTER PRESENT. only two pc's are involved.. cross-cable is used..
thanks guys! all i needed to know was that if it was possible, and you all gave great answers! best answer goes to the last dude though, gave some new and useful info..
by the way, the problem i was experiencing was that i had an IRQ conflict so i just put the NIC on another PCI slot to reallocate IRQ's.. which turned out to solve the problem..
Yes, that will work. You should be able to share the Internet connection between the 2 computers as well. What version of windows are you running would depend on weather or not you can use it as a DHCP server. Windows 2000 Server or 2003 server would allow you to in effect turn that one pci NIC into a router. You can have multiple NICS. On newer computers, you do not even need a crossover cable. All you have to do is go into the NIC properties and assign it an IP (like 192.168.0.1 and give the other 192.168.0.2 and set the default gateway to the IP of the host (one with the Internet))...
Good luck, you can message me on yahoo or email me if you need too..
