Is it a good idea to solder a laptop's AC adapter straight onto the motherboard, bypassing the jack?
I've recently acquired an laptop old laptop from a friend. It's battery doesn't work, and its LCD doesn't work. And its also doesn't have a wireless card, so there is no chance of mobility left for this poor thing. However, I DO want to use it as a small server, so I can just connect an old monitor I have, and use an ethernet cord, so this thing is stationary.
So, my goal is NOT to spend any money on this thing at all, so that includes having to buy an annoying cheap DC jack from the internet. So, would it be okay if I just soldered the AC adapter's wires directly onto the laptop's motherboard, and just excluding the jack altogether? As explained, this laptop will not be used on the go at all, so, is it safe and okay to do this, given that I solder the wires to the right spots (positive, negative)?

Unless you're a pro, don't even try. You could end up frying it's motherboard, and this has all sorts of little things. It could end up costing you a lot of money.
