Simple Recording studio set up on my PC... Midi?

First, Don't laugh at me hahaha... This is strictly for - i want to fuck around for as cheap as possible because I'm broke.
I have a very VERY simple recording studio type set up on my PC. Currently I'm using my Phonic 8 channel 350watt PA as a mixer.
Aux output to the Microphone jack
Tape Input to the Speaker jack.
I have a MXL Vocal and Condenser mic
with a Yamaha keyboard plugged into the PA.
The program is... don't laugh... Audacity.
I want to start using some Midi stuff with programs like cakewalk, reason, etc. and I know I have a copy of Pro-tools waitin' around somewhere.
My PC specs are - XP, Intel P4, 2.40Ghz, 1.5GB Ram, and a SoundBlaster Live! 24bit card.
Obviously I need to upgrade the sound card to get rid of the pops and clicks that it can't keep up with.
So do I go for a sound card that supports midi? or go for a better sound card, and get a separate midi controller?
I would vote for separate a separate sound card and MIDI interface. This allows you to shop for the best sound card you can afford without worrying whether it can support MIDI. Depending on your needs a MIDI interface can be had very inexpensively.
