phone line through cat5 cable?
hi,
can you run a phone line through a cat5 network cable? I see the centre two pairs in the cat5 are spare, and the same colour code as the b.t. wiring. if I did run the phone and the network at the same time through the same cable and fitted a modular socket with a rj45 and a b.t. socket next to each other would it interfere with the adsl signal when the phone was ringing, or is it normal practice to do it this way?

yes you can, but you shouldn't. as by using the spare 2 wires your pushing current down behind the shielding and it can and will interrupt the ethernet transmission down the other wires.
Just becuase you can do something it doesn't always mean you should, it will lead to problems
