What are the wavelength and frequency of the radiation involved in the least energetic emission line in the Lyman series? What quantum levels are involved in this emission line? What are the values of n(initial) and n(final)?
The least energetic emission line would be the one with longer wavelenght (since E = hν = hc/λ), so a quick look at the Lyman series tells us that line has wavelenght of 121.567 nm (or *10^-9 m), which is equivalent to a frequency of (with c=2.998*10^8 m/s) 2.466*10^15 Hz, or 2466 THz.
The Lyman series measures emissions of electrons decaying to their fundamental level (n=1), so this being the least energetic emission line, it should involve an electron falling from the first exited state (n=2). This are the two quantum levels involved, and since we measure the energy emitted from the decay, n=2 would be our initial level and n=1 our final level.
