a quick question about SSL VPN's!!?
a friend, who's a big into computers, told me that even with a super computer it would take perhaps days to crack a good SSL VPN with 128 bit encryption.
is that accurate? i thought super computers could crack anything in hours or minutes.
It will depend upon the exact encryption and how the algorithm works. If the computer happens to try the correct encryption the first time then it cracks it almost instantly, not highly probable, but certainly not impossible. It will depend how many combinations it must try to find the correct one. It is the old, why do I find something in the last place that I look, when you find it you stop looking. So while there are many combinations, it does not need to keep looking at the ones that it has not tried after it finds the correct bit string.
